This is about my International Harvester Corporation Scout Traveler.  My Scout was manufactured in 1976 and has about 163, 000 miles on it.  Still going strong.  IHC is no longer making this kind of vehicle.  About the only thing on the market today that comes close is the Hummer.  Even at that, the Scout has more headroom and more room under the chassis than any version of the Hummer.

You could say that the Scout might be considered the original SUV.  You could say that but most Scout owners would take offense at having thier vehicle sissyfied.  The Scout is a REAL truck.  A work truck.  Not a cross between a minivan and station wagon forced to fit on a pickup trucks chassis.

The Scout is an all steel body bolted to a heavy tubular steel frame.  A real frame.  Not some tin foil unitized cheap construction.  It has four wheel drive, automatic transmission, and a 300 cui V8 engine that gets 15 miles to the gallon regardless of how or where the Scout is driven.  Top end is only 90 mpg but you would not want to take this much equipment much faster.

This blog has information on this particular vehicle, its performance, maintenance, and restoration.
